·         Substance Abuse Evaluations - assess the level of substance abuse and make specific recommendations related to the appropriate level of treatment and education needed. For adolescents and young adults up to age 24.

·         Substance Abuse Treatment Servicesfor adolescents and young adults up to age 24, individual, family and group treatment.

empower parents to reach their full potential:

 

Practical Parenting Series DAY begins Monday September 28th 10:00-11:30 at the Christ Episcopal Church 13 ½ Crescent St Biddeford.  Class dates: September 28th, October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, December 7 and 14.

This series creates an opportunity for parents to enhance their parenting skills. During this series a Mom/Parent Educator from the PRC team leads discussion and offer tools for effective parenting including but not limited too: building self-esteem, communication skills, positive discipline, and stress management techniques for today’s parent. Classes are open to all parents, including foster, single, step, adoptive and non-traditional parents. 

 

Practical Parenting Series EVENING begins on Monday October 19   6:00– 8:30 at the Anderson Learning Center 21 Bradeen St Springvale. Class dates October 19, 26, November 2, 9,16, 23, and 30

Just For Dads program begins Monday October 19 6:00-8:00 pm at the YMCA Childcare Center located in the basement level of the Richard Martin Community Center Alfred St in Biddeford.  Class dates October 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16.

During this 5 session series Bobby Dion a Father/Parent Educator from the PRC team leads discussion with Dads on the following topics: What kind of Father do you want to be? Are you speaking the same language as your children? Esteem-building/positive discipline and stress management techniques for today’s Dad are also shared!

 

We will offer a condensed Just for Dads program beginning Monday December 7 this series will be held Mondays from 6-9pm December 7, 14 and 21~ open to Dads that have completed the Just for Dads program previously and will be a re-fresher/re-connection opportunity.  Sorry no new registrations will be accepted for this series.

A 3 PART SERIES OFFERED IN THREE LOCATIONS

 

Are you a parent of a transition age (14 and up) or soon to be transition age youth receiving Special Education services?

Does planning for your child’s future as an adult confuse you? Even worry you? Leave you with more questions than answers?

While attending this 3 part series won’t answer all your questions, you will learn:

Ø      Strategies that will assist you learn how to help your transitioning youth become their own self advocate;

Transition from High School: Taking Flight  During this workshop you will explore ways to prepare for your child’s future and how to involve your child in the planning. Learn about the IEP requirements for transition plans and begin the process of developing a transition plan for your child. You will take with you information that can be used to prepare for transition planning at future IEP meetings. Make transition from high school a more pleasant journey by flying with MPF.

Advocacy to Self Advocacy: Moving on and Letting Go As children get older, it becomes important to begin the process of shifting advocating for your child to helping them become their own self advocate. Moving on and letting go is not an easy process and it doesn’t happen overnight.  This workshop provides exploration of skills needed for self advocacy and provides ways to beginning the process of letting go. Participants get a  hands on opportunity to look at resources related to helping their child become their own self advocate.

Chatting with the Experts The third workshop in this transition series will be an open forum with community agencies and resources related to transitioning from HS to adult life.

Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Training Announced

  

PORTLAND – The Senior Volunteer Programs of PROP (People’s Regional Opportunity Program) have openings for men and women age 60-years and older, who are interested in joining its Foster Grandparent or Senior Companion Program.  Locations are available throughout York and Cumberland Counties.

 

By joining the Senior Volunteer Program, seniors can make a difference in someone’s life while having a great time and earning a little extra money.  Foster Grandparents volunteer with children with special needs in schools, child development centers and long-term care facilities.  Senior Companions are friendly visitors to frail and vulnerable seniors who are living independently in their own homes. 

 

In return for volunteering, Senior Volunteers who are eligible under income guidelines, earn a tax-free income and other benefits that do not affect benefits such as Social Security, food stamps, LIHEAP, or subsidized housing.

Southern Maine Parent Awareness helps families expand opportunities and enhance the quality of life of their children and young adults with disabilities.

We enhance parents' understanding of special education and their child’s needs through:

  • Information about special education and disabilities;
  • Referrals to community resources;
  • Individualized telephone and email consultation;
  • Individualized family conferences;
  • Assistance in preparing for ECT/IEP meetings;
  • Parent-to-parent connections, and;
  • Workshops on topics of special interest.
